About Soft Drink and Sugar

For some of the middle scholars in The Webb School, the amount of sugar they assimilate everyday is too much for them. Moreover, the situation of overdrinking soda is especially common among the middle school borders, so I believe we are in dire need of change. The lacking of self-control and the fact that their parents cannot know what they drink in the cafeteria are two major factors why children tend to drink soda. Personally, I'd like to say that instead of eradicating soft drink from the cafeteria, it is more reasonable for the school to add extra fee on them.
To start with, asking students to pay extra fee for soft drink can bring down the number of students who drink too much. As we all know, it is hard to teach middle scholars what self-control is. Therefore, to reduce the amount of sugar they assimilate in each day, the plan of adding fee on soft drink would be perfect: although middle scholars don't care about health, they do care about money. For instance, Nathen Xin, who drinks soft drink for almost every meal, does care about money. Because Nathen’s parents don’t want him to squander money, the amount of money he is allowed to use in one semester is limited. Since he needs to pay for games and computers, if the school adds extra fee on soft drink, the amount of soda he assimilates each day will be reduced significantly.
In addition, although there is an extra fee, students who want to drink soda badly can still get them easily. For some students, soda is a special drink which can help them release the pressure that they received during the classes. However, if the school just simply wipes out soda from the school, one of the most radical sources of happiness in these type of students’ lives will be eradicated, which is, obviously, not a really good result.
In conclusion, the moderate change of adding fee on soft drink is a practical plan which can benefit the student body. While reducing the number of students who over assimilate soft drink, this plan also preserves the right of drinking soft drink for the students.
